USCIS Extends Suspension of In-Person Visa Services Until April 7
The US Citizenship Immigration Services has extended the temporary suspension of in-person visa services at its asylum offices and Application Support Centers, until at least April 7, amid coronavirus pandemic, the USIC announced.
On March 18, the USCIS reported that all in-person services have been suspended until April 1 due to the COVID-10 outbreak, but the extension will last for an indeterminate period, VisaGuide.World reports.
“USCIS offices will reopen on April 7, unless the public closures are extended further,” the agency’s statement writes.
Services that do not require direct contact with the public, such as mission-essential services, will continue to be performed by the employees in these offices, VisaGuide.World reports.
The United States Citizenship Immigration Services announced that emergency services will continue to work normally as well.
Applicants and petitioners affected by the extension, whose interviews have been cancelled, will get further notices from USCIS.
The Government agency will send interview cancellation notices to asylum seekers, and will automatically reschedule the interviews. They will also be informed about the interview details, such as time, date and location of the interview.
“When USCIS again resumes normal operations, it will automatically reschedule ASC appointments due to the office closure. You will receive a new appointment letter in the mail,” the statement reads.
USCIS will update further notices about the situation and will continue to follow CDC guidance.
As the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, the US embassies worldwide suspended the services in the most affected countries by the SARS-CoV2-2.
The US Embassy and Consulates in Mexico announced that all immigrant and non-immigrant visa services would be temporarily suspended, starting from March 18, 2020, until further notice.
Although the visa services have been restricted all over the United States, the initial period for H-1B visa Cap for the 2021 fiscal year, have been completed.
